eUpdator is a system to add automatic version
checking and updating to your applications. The system was mainly developed for
client / server solutions, where eUpdator provided an easy and secure way to be
sure that all clients are running the latest version. Your product update is put
on a server and eUpdator notifies all client users and updates their software.
Since the eUpdator system also works over internet connections it is an easy way
to add automatic updates through internet (like Windows Update) for all your
distributed software. The eUpdator Application uses the eUpdator System in
itself and automatically updates when there is a new version available on this
homepage.
The eUpdator System is very easy to include in your
applications and it is fully multi-threaded, meaning that all tasks are executed
without interrupting your applications. eUpdator may download updates while the
users continues using your application.
The system is built on two components, first you have
the client. Clients are added to your application and when launched
automatically search for a new update of your software. Version information is added to information files and
put together with the updates. eUpdator uses this information to
determine if updates are required. When updates are found the user is
notified and can choose whether he wants to continue using the
application while downloading or quit and wait for the task to be
completed. The client also checks if the eUpdator Application is
installed and if not it automatically downloads it from the internet and
starts installing it.
